Information/Brief
History
Since Faculty of Sciences was founded in 1943, the Department of Physics started as Institute of Physics offering B.Sc. and giving service courses to other departments. Later, chairs of Experimental Physics, General Physics, Atomic Physics and Theoretical Physics were established. After 1974, the academic programs have continued under the name the “Department of Physics”. In addition to B.Sc., five years of Higher Engineering Physics program was launched in 1954. In 1976, two different undergraduate programs, Physics and Engineering Physics, started in the Department. In 1981, the Engineering Physics Department was established and took the responsibility of Engineering Physics programs. The Department of Physics is proud to contribute to the establisment and development of almost all the physics departments of other universities in Turkey. The Deparment offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph. D. degrees and 60 undergraduate, 20 graduate students are accepted each year. Today, there are 20 academic staff (professors, associate professors, and assistant professors ) in the Department.
